The Tree Frog can now Crawl on a Picture
I just added an update to the Tree Frog Gadget that allows you to display a jpg image behind the frog. Just edit your preferences and add the address of the jpg image to the Background Image textbox.

Thanks for the great gadget. However, transparent WMODE seems to need fixing.
Setting WMODE to transparent* allows the Fish to swim overlaid on a page but the frog will not come out of his corner. He’ll turn-around once and wiggle when nudged but that’s about it.
Optionally, can a background image address be added to the FLAHSVARS parameter?
Also, “Fish” CPU demand seems a little high - around 90% on my DELL X300.
Thanks again.
Phil

Phil,
Use “opaque” rather than “transparent”:
<param name=”wmode” value=”opaque” />
The flashvars for the background image is up_backgroundImage.
This version of the fish gadget will be more difficult to run for older computers. I still have to optimize the code. I’m also going to add a feature that will allow users to specify the number of fish. They will then be able to decrease the amount of processing by choosing fewer fish.

Thanks for the fast reply.
I found the flashvars for images in an older post but it does not appear to be able to pull images from a remote site (e.g., a photo-of-the-day).
An opaque wmode does not allow the underlying HTML (web page) to be seen. Since both fish and rings function properly with transparent wmode (allowing the fish and rings to rome the entire web page & interact with the cursor), I suspect there is a slight difference in the cursor tracking algorithm for treefrog. The fish are great but the frog is my favorite and consumes 60% less CPU.
Thanks again. Phil.

Correction:
Actually, fish and rings don’t appear to be aware of the cusor either with transparent wmode unless the cursor touches the clover-logo or one of the fish or ring images. This behavior is still pleasant.
The tracking behavior may be the same for treefog as for fish & rings, but I can’t test it since frog doesn’t roam freely.

I see.
Yeah, I had been struggling with that myself. I think wmode transparent actually works fine in firefox for mouse tracking but not in ie. To get that to work properly, I think I would have to use javascript to tell the movie where the mouse is.
I was able to get the photo of the day to appear behind the tree frog. The address of the photo changes everyday though.

A:how do i put a pic. behind the frog?
B:I think there should be an option to make the frog croak.
